BASEBALL SPRING TRAINING BEGINS MARCH 4TH – NEXT CLINIC APRIL 1
9th consecutive year of free indoor clinics
St. Marys – March 4th doubles as the only day of the year that is also a command, and more than a hundred baseball and softball players are expected to be marching forth into the DCVI gyms on six Friday nights for baseball and softball spring training beginning on that date.
The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame will begin its ninth consecutive year of free instruction for boys and girls aged 7-15, from beginners to experienced, on March 4, 11, 25 and April 1, 8, and 15. The Friday of March Break will be skipped.
The clinics will be headed by Ball Hall president & CEO Tom Valcke, who served as the Head Coach of the World Children’s Baseball Fair in Tokyo last August, the 15th time he has coached at the world’s largest baseball clinic. The former Team Canada coach currently coaches Bantam and Mosquito baseball locally, has taught baseball in 17 different countries, and won six national championships as a player/manager.
“As hockey closes out and the smells of Spring are in the air, it is just a nice way for kids to start with proper habits and enables them to hit the ground running when the weather permits their local teams to begin tryouts,” said Valcke.
Players aged nine and under will train from 6:00-7:30pm, while players aged 10 and over will train from 7:30-9:00pm.
Players should come dressed in comfortable clothing, and should bring indoor shoes and a baseball glove if they have one. Parents are asked to please ensure that their child’s name is on all equipment. The Hall, with assistance from St. Marys Minor Ball, will provide the necessary additional equipment.
Even though there is no fee, players need to pre-register by contacting the Hall of Fame by telephone (519-284-1838) or email baseball@baseballhalloffame.ca This will enable the Hall to line up the appropriate number of coaches and plan the clinics.
The Ball Hall is looking to bolster the coaching staff as we are expecting big numbers this year, so please contact us if you can give up a few Friday nights. The clinics will be pre-designed and the overall instruction is looked after – we’re looking for some adults who can oversee some stations to ensure safety.
