THINGS TO WATCH FOR IN 2012

In 2011 there were 26 Canadians in the big leagues, let’s hope 2012 is even better. Some of the major milestones for a few of the Canadian Players:

HITTERS

Jason Bay: 64 games to move into 7th all-time, 21 runs to move into 6th all-time, 3 walks to move into 4th all-time, 156 at-bats to move into 9th all-time, 5 hits to move into 8th all-time, 44 RBI’s to move into 4th all-time, 7 stolen bases to move into 8th all-time, 46 doubles to move into 3rd all-time.

Brett Lawrie: for Brett to break into the top 10 single season statsin all categories for Canadian 3rd basemen he would have to do the following in 2012: G-138, AB-483, R-71, H-137, D-26, T-4 (already did this in 2011), HR-12, RBI-62, BB-56, SB-11, TB-203, OBP-.353, SLG-.446, AVG-.276. What a great season this would be for young Brett!

Russell Martin: 100 runs to move into 15th all-time, 27 homeruns to move into 9th all-time, 3 walks to move into 12th all-time, 30 at-bats to move into 18th all-time, 40 hits to move into 17th all-time, 32 RBI’s to move into 15th all-time, 20 stolen bases to move into 8th all-time, 5 doubles to move in 18th all-time.

Justin Morneau: 22 games to move into 12th all-time, 3 runs to move into 11th all-time, 10 homeruns to move into 4th all-time, 4 walks to move into 10th all-time, 28 at-bats to move into 13th all-time, 76 hits to move into 8th all-time, 49 RBI’s to move into 4th all-time, 47 doubles to move into 3rd all-time.

Mark Teahen: 2 homeruns to move into 11th all-time, 28 walks to move into 18th all-time, 2 triples to move into 18th all-time, 188 at-bats to move into 16th all-time, 18 hits to move into 17th all-time, 14 RBI’s to move into 18th all-time, 2 stolen bases to move into 17th all-time, 34 doubles to move in 12th all-time.

Joey Votto: 6 homeruns to move into 6th all-time, 37 walks to move into 12th all-time, 81 hits to move into 17th all-time, 20 RBI’s to move into 13th all-time, 44 doubles to move into 12th all-time.

PITCHERS

John Axford: 2 saves to move into 5th all-time and 17 saves to move into 3rd all-time.

Erik Bedard: 11 wins to move into 10th all-time, 74 strikeouts until 1000 (only 4 other Canadians have accomplished this great feat), 6 starts to move into 6th all-time, 48.2 innings pitched until 1000 (only 11 other Canadians have accomplished this great feat).

Jesse Crain: 3 wins to move into 16th all-time, 47 games until 500 (only 5 other Canadians have accomplished this great feat), 18 strikeouts to move into 19th all-time.

Ryan Dempster: Currently ranks 2nd all-time in wins, strikeouts, games started and innings pitched all to legendary Fergie Jenkins. 27 games to move into 4th all-time.

Jeff Francis: 5 wins to move into 10th all-time, 17 strikeouts to move into 11th all-time, 24 games started to move into 4th all-time, 149 innings pitched to move into 10th all-time.

Rich Harden: 8 wins to move into 10th all-time, 55 strikeouts to move into 4th all-time, 3 games started to move into 9th all-time.
