Apr\u00e8s avoir port\u00e9 les couleurs de l\u2019\u00e9quipe de football des Fighting Irish de Notre-Dame, John McHale a pass\u00e9 cinq saisons dans l\u2019organisation des Tigers de D\u00e9troit, jouant 39 matchs avec le grand club en 1947. L\u2019ann\u00e9e suivante, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 l\u2019assistant au directeur des clubs mineurs de l\u2019organisation avant de grimper les \u00e9chelons et de devenir le directeur-g\u00e9n\u00e9ral en 1957. Les Braves de Milwaukee l\u2019ont ensuite recrut\u00e9 pour devenir leur pr\u00e9sident et directeur-g\u00e9n\u00e9ral en 1959. C\u2019est lui qui a supervis\u00e9 le d\u00e9m\u00e9nagement de l\u2019\u00e9quipe vers Atlanta en 1966.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apr\u00e8s avoir pass\u00e9 deux ans au bureau du commissaire, McHale a \u00e9t\u00e9 engag\u00e9 par Charles Bronfman afin de b\u00e2tir les Expos de Montr\u00e9al en tant que premier pr\u00e9sident de la concession. Il a aussi \u00e9t\u00e9 le directeur-g\u00e9n\u00e9ral des Expos de 1978 \u00e0 1984. Au cours de cette p\u00e9riode, les Expos \u00e9taient au plus fort des courses aux championnats avec des joueurs rep\u00each\u00e9s tel que Gary Carter, Andre Dawson, Tim Raines et Steve Rogers, tous des piliers de l\u2019\u00e9quipe en 1981, alors qu\u2019ils \u00e9taient \u00e0 une victoire d\u2019une S\u00e9rie mondiale. McHale a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 l\u2019homme de baseball de l\u2019ann\u00e9e au Canada en 1979 et le dirigeant de l\u2019ann\u00e9e par la revue Sporting News en 1981. McHale a finalement pass\u00e9 23 saisons \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al, occupant les r\u00f4les de pr\u00e9sident, directeur-g\u00e9n\u00e9ral et vice-pr\u00e9sident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
