Il \u00e9tait d\u00e9termin\u00e9 \u00e0 faire tout ce qu'il fallait pour r\u00e9aliser son r\u00eave de promouvoir le baseball canadien. Je suis certain qu'il n'aurait jamais pens\u00e9 recevoir cette importante reconnaissance de la part du Temple de la renomm\u00e9e et mus\u00e9e du baseball canadien. Il aimait son sport et \u00e9tait extr\u00eamement passionn\u00e9 par la promotion du baseball au Canada. Je vous remercie au nom d'un homme qui croyait que la pers\u00e9v\u00e9rance \u00e9tait la voie du succ\u00e8s.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>\u00ab \u00c0 tous ses amis, coll\u00e8gues, journalistes, joueurs et amateurs qui l'ont connu et soutenu, la famille Snyder adresse ses remerciements \u00bb.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>N\u00e9 le 14 f\u00e9vrier 1920 \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al (QC), Gerry Snyder a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le crucial dans l'implantation des Ligues majeures de baseball au Canada. En tant que conseiller municipal et sportif passionn\u00e9, Snyder a travaill\u00e9 sans rel\u00e2che pour obtenir une franchise de la MLB pour Montr\u00e9al. Il rencontre pour la premi\u00e8re fois le commissaire de la MLB, Ford C. Frick, en 1962, mais la r\u00e9union ne dure que 10 minutes apr\u00e8s qu'il a admis au commissaire que Montr\u00e9al ne disposait pas d'un stade viable pour ce calibre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gerry Snyder left the meeting dejected but pressed on, and after the National League announced in 1967 that it planned to expand by two teams, Snyder started travelling to National League meetings to ensure that Montreal was on the radar for their expansion plans. Along the way, Snyder befriended Dodgers\u2019 owner Walter O\u2019Malley who could vouch for Montreal as a strong market because the Dodgers had maintained a successful Triple-A affiliate in the city until 1960.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Snyder convainc \u00e9galement Charles Bronfman, propri\u00e9taire de Seagram, de se joindre au projet en tant qu'investisseur et, \u00e9ventuellement, en tant que propri\u00e9taire principal du club. Les efforts acharn\u00e9s du politicien montr\u00e9alais sont finalement r\u00e9compens\u00e9s lorsque la Ligue nationale annonce que la ville de Montr\u00e9al obtiendra la premi\u00e8re franchise de la ligue majeure du Canada le 27 mai 1968.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Une autre des excellentes d\u00e9cisions de Snyder a \u00e9t\u00e9 de convaincre John McHale de quitter son poste de commissaire adjoint de la MLB pour devenir le premier pr\u00e9sident des Expos. McHale, un homme tr\u00e8s respect\u00e9, est devenu l'architecte des Expos, les faisant passer du statut de dernier de classe \u00e0 celui d'\u00e9quipe au potentiel immense pendant les 18 ann\u00e9es o\u00f9 il a \u00e9t\u00e9 dans les bureaux de l'\u00e9quipe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apr\u00e8s l'entr\u00e9e en sc\u00e8ne des Expos, Snyder reprend son r\u00f4le de conseiller municipal pour le district de Snowdon, fonction qu'il exercera pendant 25 ans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tout au long de sa carri\u00e8re politique, il a continu\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00eatre un ambassadeur sportif infatigable pour Montr\u00e9al et a aid\u00e9 la ville \u00e0 obtenir les Jeux olympiques de 1976 et une course de Grand Prix de Formule 1 en 1978. Snyder a \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 sollicit\u00e9 par les Blue Jays de Toronto pour les aider \u00e0 trouver un lieu d'entra\u00eenement pour le printemps 1976 et il a recommand\u00e9 Dunedin, en Floride, au pr\u00e9sident des Blue Jays, Peter Bavasi.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1977, Gerry Snyder was named one of the first recipients of the Queen\u2019s Silver Jubilee Medal, which is awarded to Canadians who have made significant contributions to their fellow citizens, their community or to Canada.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>M.
