J'ai h\u00e2te de rejoindre le groupe \u00e0 St. Marys en juin. \u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>N\u00e9 le 7 avril 1944 \u00e0 Oak Park, dans l'Illinois, Bill Stoneman \u00e9tait l'as des Expos de Montr\u00e9al \u00e0 leurs d\u00e9buts. Il est ensuite devenu un important gestionnaire du club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>S\u00e9lectionn\u00e9 au 31<sup>e<\/sup> tour du rep\u00eachage de la MLB en 1966 par les Cubs de Chicago, Stoneman a pass\u00e9 ses deux premi\u00e8res saisons dans le baseball majeur comme releveur avec les Cubs avant d'\u00eatre choisi par les Expos lors du rep\u00eachage d'expansion de 1968.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le droitier a fait partie de l'alignement inaugural des Expos lors du jour d'ouverture et, le 17 avril 1969, lors du neuvi\u00e8me match de saison r\u00e9guli\u00e8re de l'histoire des Expos, il a r\u00e9ussi un match sans point ni coup s\u00fbr contre les Phillies de Philadelphie au Connie Mack Stadium. Il est ainsi devenu le premier lanceur \u00e0 r\u00e9ussir un match sans point ni coup s\u00fbr pour une \u00e9quipe canadienne de la MLB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stoneman a ensuite men\u00e9 les Expos en termes de victoires (11), de d\u00e9parts (36), de manches lanc\u00e9es (235,2), de retraits sur des prises (185), de matchs complets (8) et de blanchissages (5) en 1969.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Au cours des quatre saisons suivantes, Stoneman a \u00e9t\u00e9 le lanceur partant num\u00e9ro un des Expos. En 1971, il a enregistr\u00e9 un record personnel de 17 victoires et affich\u00e9 une moyenne de points m\u00e9rit\u00e9s de 3,15 en 39 apparitions (38 d\u00e9parts) et \u00e9tabli des records de franchise pour les matchs complets (19), les manches lanc\u00e9es (294,2) et les retraits au b\u00e2ton (251). Il s'est \u00e9galement class\u00e9 deuxi\u00e8me dans la Ligue nationale pour le nombre de manches lanc\u00e9es, troisi\u00e8me pour le nombre de retraits au b\u00e2ton et huiti\u00e8me au vote pour le troph\u00e9e Cy Young.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stoneman a encha\u00een\u00e9 avec une autre saison exceptionnelle en 1972, o\u00f9 il a remport\u00e9 12 victoires et affich\u00e9 la meilleure moyenne de points m\u00e9rit\u00e9s de sa carri\u00e8re (2,98) en 35 d\u00e9parts. Le 2 octobre de cette ann\u00e9e-l\u00e0, il a lanc\u00e9 son deuxi\u00e8me match sans point ni coup s\u00fbr. Celui-ci a eu lieu \u00e0 domicile, au parc Jarry de Montr\u00e9al, lors d'une victoire 7-0 contre les Mets de New York. Il est ainsi devenu le premier lanceur d'une \u00e9quipe canadienne des Majeures \u00e0 lancer un match sans point ni coup s\u00fbr au Canada. Il est \u00e9galement le seul lanceur \u00e0 avoir lanc\u00e9 plus d'un match sans point ni coup s\u00fbr pour une \u00e9quipe canadienne dans la MLB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apr\u00e8s une autre saison avec les Expos, Stoneman a termin\u00e9 sa carri\u00e8re de joueur avec les Angels de la Californie en 1974.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0 sa retraite, il est revenu au Canada et est devenu directeur chez Royal Trust avant de revenir chez les Expos en 1983 en tant qu'adjoint au pr\u00e9sident. En septembre 1984, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 promu au poste de vice-pr\u00e9sident de l'administration baseball, puis plus tard \u00e0 celui de vice-pr\u00e9sident des op\u00e9rations baseball. En 1987, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral par int\u00e9rim de l'\u00e9quipe et a occup\u00e9 ce poste jusqu'\u00e0 ce que Dave Dombrowski le remplace en juillet 1988.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stoneman a gard\u00e9 un poste de gestionnaire au sein des Expos jusqu'\u00e0 la saison 1999, date \u00e0 laquelle il a \u00e9t\u00e9 engag\u00e9 comme directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral des Angels. En 2002, il a constitu\u00e9 la seule \u00e9quipe des Angels \u00e0 avoir remport\u00e9 la S\u00e9rie mondiale.
