\u00ab C'est un immense honneur de recevoir cet appel du Temple de la renomm\u00e9e du baseball canadien, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Clapp. J'ai \u00e9t\u00e9 compl\u00e8tement pris au d\u00e9pourvu. C'est une grande b\u00e9n\u00e9diction d'apprendre cette nouvelle le jour de l'anniversaire de ma fille. \u00bb <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

N\u00e9 le 24 f\u00e9vrier 1973 \u00e0 Windsor (ON), Stubby Clapp est surnomm\u00e9 \u00ab Capitaine Canada \u00bb en raison de son engagement de longue date au sein de l'\u00e9quipe nationale, o\u00f9 il a particip\u00e9 \u00e0 plus d'une douzaine de comp\u00e9titions en tant que joueur et entra\u00eeneur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clapp a perfectionn\u00e9 ses comp\u00e9tences dans sa ville natale de Windsor avant de rejoindre l'\u00e9quipe nationale junior en 1991 pour aider l'\u00e9quipe \u00e0 remporter la m\u00e9daille d'or au Championnat mondial de baseball junior tenu \u00e0 Brandon, au Manitoba, cet \u00e9t\u00e9-l\u00e0. C'est la seule m\u00e9daille d'or que l'\u00e9quipe nationale junior ait jamais remport\u00e9e. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After graduating from Texas Tech University, the scrappy infielder was selected in the 36th<\/sup> tour du rep\u00eachage de la MLB de 1996 par les Cardinals de Saint-Louis. Contre toute attente, Clapp a fait ses d\u00e9buts dans le baseball majeur avec les Cardinals le 18 juin 2001.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Au total, Clapp a disput\u00e9 23 matchs avec les Cardinals et 11 saisons dans les rangs professionnels. Il a pass\u00e9 quatre de ces saisons (de 1999 \u00e0 2002) avec les Redbirds de Memphis, l'\u00e9quipe AAA des Cardinals, o\u00f9 il est devenu l'un des joueurs les plus productifs et les plus populaires de l'\u00e9quipe. Faisant souvent un saut p\u00e9rilleux arri\u00e8re lorsqu'il entrait sur le terrain, il est devenu connu sous le nom de \u00ab maire de Memphis \u00bb et son num\u00e9ro 10 a \u00e9t\u00e9 retir\u00e9 par le club en 2007.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mais m\u00eame pendant sa carri\u00e8re professionnelle, Clapp n'a jamais oubli\u00e9 ses racines. En 1999, il a repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 le Canada aux Jeux panam\u00e9ricains \u00e0 Winnipeg, au Manitoba, et a frapp\u00e9 un simple avec les buts remplis en manche suppl\u00e9mentaire, permettant au Canada de remporter une victoire surprise contre les \u00c9tats-Unis et d'obtenir finalement la m\u00e9daille de bronze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apr\u00e8s sa carri\u00e8re de joueur, Clapp est devenu entra\u00eeneur, avant de retourner \u00e0 Memphis, au Tennessee, pour diriger le club AAA qui a remport\u00e9 les championnats de la Pacific Coast League en 2017 et 2018. Ses efforts lui ont valu d'\u00eatre nomm\u00e9 g\u00e9rant de l'ann\u00e9e de la PCL lors de ces deux campagnes. Cette performance lui a aussi valu d'\u00eatre promu au poste d'entra\u00eeneur au premier but chez les Cardinals en 2019, poste qu'il occupe depuis sept saisons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years, Clapp has also served as a coach for the national team, including at the 2013 World Baseball Classic and 2015 Pan Am Games. He will also be a coach for Canada at this year’s World Baseball Classic.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
