In 1955, Toronto-area scout, Chester Dies, convinced Ron Taylor to try out for Cleveland. By that time, the teenage hurler from the Toronto\u2019s Leaside Baseball Association had been dominating players several years older than him. Taylor impressed at the tryout and the Indians inked him to a deal that included a $4,000 signing bonus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apr\u00e8s plusieurs saisons dans les rangs mineurs, Taylor a fait des d\u00e9buts fracassants dans les Ligues majeures le 11 avril 1962. Il avait alors blanchi les Red Sox de Boston pendant 11 manches, au Fenway Park. Plus tard dans la saison, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9chang\u00e9 aux Cardinals de Saint-Louis o\u00f9 il devait jouer un r\u00f4le important dans l\u2019enclos des releveurs pour les futurs champions de la S\u00e9rie mondiale. Taylor a \u00e9t\u00e9 de nouveau \u00e9t\u00e9 appel\u00e9 \u00e0 faire la diff\u00e9rence lors de la S\u00e9rie mondiale de 1969 dans le camp des Mets de New York. Avec deux retraits et deux coureurs sur les sentiers lors du deuxi\u00e8me de la S\u00e9rie, on a confi\u00e9 \u00e0 Taylor le soin d\u2019affronter Brooks Robinson. Ce dernier a \u00e9t\u00e9 forc\u00e9 de frapper un roulant au troisi\u00e8me but pour mettre fin au match. Avec cette deuxi\u00e8me conqu\u00eate de la S\u00e9rie mondiale, Taylor est le seul Canadien \u00e0 l\u2019avoir gagn\u00e9 avec deux \u00e9quipes diff\u00e9rentes. En tout, Taylor a lanc\u00e9 sept manches sans donner un seul coup s\u00fbr en S\u00e9rie mondiale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon retiring from baseball, Taylor returned to Toronto, where he earned a degree in medicine from the University of Toronto and was the team doctor of the Toronto Blue Jays. Ron passed away June 16, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
