The James “Tip” O’Neill Award<\/strong><\/p>

Presented annually to the Canadian player judged to have excelled in individual achievement and team contribution while adhering to baseball\u2019s highest ideals.<\/p>

James “Tip” O’Neill Career Began in 1883.<\/strong><\/p>

Tip started his Major League Baseball career as a pitcher in 1883.<\/p>

He won the 1886 World Championship with St. Louis.<\/p>

James \u201cTip\u201d O\u2019Neill was one of Major League baseball\u2019s first legitimate stars. With the St. Louis Browns in 1887, O\u2019Neill batted .492, SLG-.691, Hits-225, Doubles-52, Triples-19, Homeruns-14, Total Bases-357, Runs-167 (4th all-time for a single season), RBI-123.<\/p>

Major League Record Holder from Woodstock, ON<\/strong><\/p>

The outfielder from Woodstock, Ontario set major league records in hits, doubles, slugging percentage, and total bases that season while compiling an astounding .492 batting average (walks were included as hits in 1887, but if his average was calculated by today\u2019s standard, it was .435.<\/p>

Played 1052 games with a career .326 AVG, .851 OPS, 144 OPS+, 25.4 WAR.<\/p>

Pitcher: 16 wins, 3.39 ERA, 36 games, 289 IP.<\/p>

The former US Speaker of the House was named after the Canadian baseball icon.<\/p>

JOSH NAYLOR<\/strong><\/p>

St.\u00a0Marys, Ont. \u2013\u00a0Seattle Mariners\u00a0first baseman\u00a0Josh Naylor (Mississauga, Ont.)\u00a0<\/strong>has been named the winner of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum\u2019s 2025\u00a0Tip O\u2019Neill Award.\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0The St.\u00a0Marys, Ont.-based\u00a0shrine presents this honour annually to the Canadian player judged to have excelled in individual achievement and team contribution while adhering to baseball\u2019s highest ideals.\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0Naylor, who topped Canadian major leaguers in\u00a0multiple\u00a0offensive categories in 2025,\u00a0is a\u00a0second-time winner of the award.\u00a0He also captured the honour in 2023.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0He staved off\u00a0strong competition\u00a0from fellow major leaguers\u00a0Nick\u00a0Pivetta\u00a0(Victoria, B.C.), Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Montreal, Que.)\u00a0and\u00a0Cade Smith (Abbotsford, B.C.)\u00a0to secure the honour.\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0\u201cJosh Naylor\u00a0was outstanding in both the\u00a0regular season and postseason in 2025. His combination of power and\u00a0base-stealing ability\u00a0made him one of the biggest offensive threats in the majors and his energy and\u00a0passion\u00a0for the game of baseball\u00a0is contagious,\u201d said Scott Crawford, the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame\u2019s director of operations.\u00a0\u201cHe also continues to be a wonderful role model through\u00a0the many charities he supports.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0Splitting his season between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Mariners, Naylor topped all Canadian major leaguers in batting average (.295), RBIs (92)\u00a0and stolen bases (30). He also finished second among Canuck big leaguers in hits (160), runs (81), home runs (20), doubles (29)\u00a0and walks (48).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0Naylor was at his best in September\u00a0with the Mariners battling for the American League West division title\u00a0when he\u00a0hit\u00a0.364 and had a .982 OPS in 22 games.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0In 2025, he also became\u00a0just\u00a0the fourth first baseman in MLB history and the second Canadian to record 20 home runs and 30 stolen bases in the same season (Larry Walker\u00a0(Maple Ridge, B.C.)\u00a0was the first with the Colorado Rockies in 1997).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0In 12 games in the postseason,\u00a0Naylor\u00a0batted .340, with a .966 OPS and led the Mariners\u00a0with 16 hits.\u00a0He\u00a0also set several Canadian postseason records, including becoming the first Canuck to have four, three-hit games in the same postseason. In Game 2 of the American League Championship Series, he belted a two-run home run to become the first Canadian to homer against the Blue Jays in Canada in the postseason.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0Along the way,\u00a0Naylor became a fan favourite with the Mariners and\u00a0following the season, the team\u00a0re-signed\u00a0him\u00a0to a five-year contract.\u00a0<\/p>

The 2025\u00a0campaign was Naylor\u2019s\u00a0seventh\u00a0in the majors. After honing his skills with the Ontario Blue Jays and Junior National Team, Naylor was selected 12th<\/sup>\u00a0overall by the Miami Marlins in the 2015 MLB draft.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

During his career,\u00a0Naylor\u00a0has supported\u00a0numerous\u00a0charities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0The Hall\u2019s Tip O\u2019Neill Award is named after Woodstock, Ont., native\u00a0James\u00a0\u201cTip\u201d O\u2019Neill, who was one of Major League Baseball\u2019s first legitimate stars.
