Les d\u00e9buts de l\u2019\u00e9quipe Asahi<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Nous sommes en 1914, et, \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque, pr\u00e8s de 10 000 personnes d'origine japonaise ont immigr\u00e9 au Canada. 95 % de ces Issei s'installent en Colombie-Britannique, o\u00f9 il y a beaucoup de travail dans les industries de l'agriculture et de la p\u00eache, semblables aux villages de p\u00eacheurs et d'agriculteurs d'o\u00f9 ils viennent au Japon.<\/p>\n

\nLa rue Powell, dans le quartier Eastside du centre-ville de Vancouver, a \u00e9t\u00e9 surnomm\u00e9e \"Little Tokyo\" ou \"Japantown\", car de nombreux Canadiens d'origine japonaise de premi\u00e8re (Issei) et de deuxi\u00e8me (Nisei) g\u00e9n\u00e9ration s'y sont install\u00e9s. Le fort sentiment d'appartenance \u00e0 la communaut\u00e9 qui s'est \u00e9tabli \u00e0 Little Tokyo est en partie n\u00e9 de la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9, car de nombreux Canadiens d'origine japonaise \u00e9taient victimes de discrimination raciale de la part des autres citoyens de Vancouver. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Matsujiro Miyasaki, propri\u00e9taire d'un magasin dans le quartier Japantown, d\u00e9cide de former une \u00e9quipe de baseball avec l'intention de remporter le championnat de la Ligue Vancouver Terminal. Miyasaki a \u00e9t\u00e9 le premier g\u00e9rant et entra\u00eeneur de l'\u00e9quipe, de 1914 \u00e0 1917. L'\u00e9quipe \u00e9tait compos\u00e9e de Canadiens d'origine japonaise de premi\u00e8re et de deuxi\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration. Miyasaki a nomm\u00e9 l'\u00e9quipe les Asahi, ce qui signifie \u00ab soleil du matin \u00bb.<\/p>\n

Les Asahi ne sont pas la premi\u00e8re \u00e9quipe de baseball nippo-canadienne. Le baseball est tr\u00e8s populaire au sein de la communaut\u00e9 de Vancouver et plusieurs \u00e9quipes amateurs se forment. La plus connue de ces \u00e9quipes \u00e9tait le club Nippon de Vancouver. Cependant, le club Nippon a fini par fermer ses portes et ses meilleurs joueurs ont rejoint l\u2019\u00e9quipe Asahi.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Leur terrain \u00e9tait situ\u00e9 au parc Oppenheimer (le Powell Street Grounds) au centre de Little Tokyo. Au cours de ses quatre premi\u00e8res ann\u00e9es d'existence, l'\u00e9quipe Asahi a surtout affront\u00e9 des \u00e9quipes japonaises amateurs ou des \u00e9quipes locales comme les Longshoremen - une \u00e9quipe municipale parrain\u00e9e par l\u2019Association internationale Longshoremen, un des premiers syndicats pour les travailleurs marins. Les Longshoremen \u00e9taient eux-m\u00eames une \u00e9quipe multiethnique, qui comptait des joueurs noirs et indig\u00e8nes dans ses rangs. Quel que soit l'adversaire de l\u2019Asahi, ces matchs de baseball sont tr\u00e8s importants pour la communaut\u00e9 nippo-canadienne et les commerces sont souvent ferm\u00e9s pendant les matchs pour que les gens puissent y assister. Ces matchs \u00e9taient un excellent moyen de remonter le moral de la communaut\u00e9 et de cr\u00e9er des liens tant au sein de la communaut\u00e9 japonaise qu'avec les habitants de Vancouver, toutes races confondues, qui \u00e9tait assez vari\u00e9 en raison du statut de ville portuaire de Vancouver.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
