Ce gant brun de joueur de champ, l'un des plus anciens de notre collection, a \u00e9t\u00e9 produit par la T. Eaton Company Limited (mieux connue sous le nom d'Eaton's) vers 1910-1920. Eaton's \u00e9tait un grand magasin omnipr\u00e9sent et une entreprise de vente par correspondance qui vendait de tout, des manteaux de fourrure aux meubles. Fond\u00e9 par l'immigrant irlandais Timothy Eaton en 1869, le magasin \u00e9tait pr\u00e9sent dans toutes les provinces \u00e0 l'apog\u00e9e de son succ\u00e8s et se pr\u00e9sentait comme un \u00e9l\u00e9ment de l'identit\u00e9 nationale du Canada.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Eaton vendait une vari\u00e9t\u00e9 d'articles de sport et consacrait une page enti\u00e8re au baseball dans son catalogue de 1913, avec \u00ab une qualit\u00e9 et un mat\u00e9riel fiables pour les articles de baseball \u00bb. Certains des mat\u00e9riaux annonc\u00e9s seraient difficilement consid\u00e9r\u00e9s comme \u00ab fiables\u00bb selon les normes d'aujourd'hui, tandis que d'autres sont tomb\u00e9s dans l'oubli. Par exemple, un gant de receveur est d\u00e9crit comme \u00e9tant fabriqu\u00e9 en peau de veau et en \u00ab amiante de la meilleure qualit\u00e9 \u00bb, tandis qu'un gant de joueur de champ est fabriqu\u00e9 en peau de cheval.
