En avril 1985, la Cour supr\u00eame du Canada, dans l'affaire historique R. c. Big M Drug Mart Ltd., a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 inconstitutionnelle la loi sur le jour du Seigneur, affirmant que \u00ab la <\/span>loi sur le jour du Seigneur<\/i> , dans la mesure o\u00f9 elle impose \u00e0 tous un id\u00e9al chr\u00e9tien sectaire, constitue une forme de coercition contraire \u00e0 l'esprit de la Charte. Elle donne l'impression de discriminer les Canadiens non chr\u00e9tiens... Les non-chr\u00e9tiens se voient interdire, pour des raisons religieuses, d'exercer des activit\u00e9s par ailleurs l\u00e9gales, morales et normales \u00bb<\/span>(R. c. Big M Drug Mart Ltd. 1985, arr\u00eat de la Cour supr\u00eame, affaire 18125<\/i>). Cette d\u00e9cision a port\u00e9 un coup s\u00e9rieux aux partis conservateurs oppos\u00e9s aux activit\u00e9s dominicales et \u00e0 la vente d'alcool lors d'\u00e9v\u00e9nements sportifs. Finalement, le 7 juin 1992, apr\u00e8s plusieurs revirements dans les d\u00e9cisions et les appels, les magasins ont finalement \u00e9t\u00e9 autoris\u00e9s \u00e0 ouvrir l\u00e9galement le dimanche dans la province de l'Ontario. Dans sa d\u00e9claration sur l'inconstitutionnalit\u00e9 de la loi sur le jour du Seigneur, la Cour supr\u00eame du Canada a invoqu\u00e9 \u00ab l'\u00e9volution des conditions sociales \u00bb (<\/span>(R. c. Big M Drug Mart Ltd. 1985, arr\u00eat de la Cour supr\u00eame, affaire 18125<\/i>). Cela n'\u00e9tait nulle part plus pertinent qu'\u00e0 Toronto, dont la population avait doubl\u00e9 entre 1950 et 1992, devenant l'une des villes les plus diversifi\u00e9es sur le plan culturel et religieux au Canada. <\/span><\/p>

Avec le baseball en t\u00eate, d'abord comme une raison valable pour assouplir les lois restrictives du dimanche, puis, des ann\u00e9es plus tard, comme figure de proue contre la prohibition de longue date de l'alcool en Ontario, le changement a r\u00e9gn\u00e9 \u00e0 Toronto. Bien que cela n'ait pas toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 le cas, aujourd'hui, les foules qui assistent aux matchs de baseball sont diverses et des personnes de tous horizons et de toutes croyances peuvent profiter d'un match. Les barri\u00e8res \u00e0 la pratique de ce sport sont \u00e9galement en train de tomber, notamment gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des programmes tels que Challenger Baseball et la prochaine saison inaugurale de la Ligue professionnelle de baseball f\u00e9minin. L'atmosph\u00e8re et les r\u00e8gles dans les stades de baseball de l'Ontario ont d\u00fb s'adapter pour refl\u00e9ter la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 culturelle plus large de l'Ontario et ce sont les amateurs et les personnalit\u00e9s du baseball qui ont men\u00e9 la charge pour faire de Toronto un endroit plus tol\u00e9rant qu'il ne l'\u00e9tait auparavant.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
