Le populaire arr\u00eat-court dominicain a d\u2019abord disput\u00e9 15 parties avec les Jays en 1983 avant d\u2019\u00eatre nomm\u00e9 la recrue de l\u2019ann\u00e9e de l\u2019\u00e9quipe en 1984. \u00c0 sa premi\u00e8re campagne comme joueur partant, Fernandez a frapp\u00e9 pour ,289, aidant les siens \u00e0 gagner un premier championnat dans l\u2019Est de l\u2019Am\u00e9ricaine. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Au cours des cinq saisons suivantes, Fernandez \u00e9tait consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme le meilleur joueur de la Ligue \u00e0 sa position, menant d\u2019ailleurs les Jays pour la moyenne (1986 et 1987), les coups s\u00fbrs (1986, 1988 et 1990) et les triples (1986, 1987, 1989 et 1990). Apr\u00e8s deux saisons dans la Ligue nationale avec les Padres de San Diego et les Mets de New York, Fernandez a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9chang\u00e9 de nouveaux Jays en juin 1993. En 94 parties apr\u00e8s son retour, il a compil\u00e9 une moyenne au b\u00e2ton de ,306 et a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le important dans la conqu\u00eate de la S\u00e9rie mondiale. Apr\u00e8s des s\u00e9jours d\u2019un an avec les Reds de Cincinnati, les Yankees de New York et les Indians de Cleveland, Fernandez a effectu\u00e9 son troisi\u00e8me s\u00e9jour ave les Jays en 1998. Il a termin\u00e9 la campagne avec une moyenne au b\u00e2ton de ,321 et 72 points produits. L\u2019ann\u00e9e suivante, il a r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 maintenir une moyenne de ,328, la cinqui\u00e8me plus haute moyenne de l\u2019histoire de la concession. \u00c0 sa derni\u00e8re campagne avec les Jays en 2001, Fernandez a r\u00e9ussi 16 coups s\u00fbrs \u00e0 titre de frappeur d\u2019urgence, un record d\u2019\u00e9quipe. \u00c0 sa retraite, il \u00e9tait le meneur de l\u2019\u00e9quipe pour les coups s\u00fbrs (1583), les matchs jou\u00e9s (1450) et les triples (72) alors qu\u2019on le retrouve au troisi\u00e8me rang pour la moyenne au b\u00e2ton (,297).
