The 91<sup>e<\/sup> installment in the series tells the story of the Vancouver Asahi, who played for 27 years until the Government of Canada ordered Japanese Canadians interned during the Second World War. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Watch the new Historica Canada minute <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"HERE. (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/wBv-MYAf9P0\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>cliquez ici.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Asahi got their start\nin 1914, and quickly championed a style of play called \u2018brainball,\u2019 which\nutilized bunts, squeeze plays and stolen bases to counter the power hitting\nstyle employed by most North American teams. Known for their sportsmanship and\nfair play approach, the Asahi won many league championships, and toured the\nUnited States and Japan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1942, after Canada\ndeclared war on Japan, the players were among the 22,000 Japanese Canadians\nmoved to internment camps in the interior of British Columbia. While interned,\nthe players formed baseball teams, and eventually an inter-camp league. Many of\nthose interned remember these games as a bright spot that helped bring joy into\nthis dark period in Canadian history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEach\nHeritage Minute tells a different story \u2013 some highlight the impressive\nachievements of Canadians and some encourage reflection on injustices of the\npast,\u201d said Anthony Wilson-Smith, President and CEO of Historica Canada. \u201cThis\nMinute does both.
