The Canadian Baseball Hall of\nFame would like to congratulate Larry Walker on his historic election to the\nNational Baseball Hall of Fame today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are thrilled to learn that\nLarry Walker will become the second Canadian inducted into the National\nBaseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, joining the legendary Fergie Jenkins,\u201d\nsaid Adam Stephens, the head of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame\u2019s board of\ndirectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLarry was a unanimous\nselection to our Hall of Fame in 2009 and we have been proud to tell the story\nof his trailblazing and record-breaking career in our museum. Over the years, both\non and off the field, Larry has been a true inspiration and role model for\nCanadians. He has also been a strong supporter of the Canadian Baseball Hall of\nFame & Museum and has never forgotten his roots. On behalf of the Canadian\nBaseball Hall of Fame, I would like to congratulate Larry on this well-earned\nand historic honour. We look forward to seeing him at his induction ceremony in\nCooperstown this summer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When\nLarry Walker signed his first professional contract in 1984, he preferred the\nMontreal Canadiens to the Montreal Expos, but after the longtime hockey goalie\ndecided to focus on the diamond, he evolved into the greatest position player\nCanada has ever produced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Signed by\nfellow Canadian Baseball Hall of Famer, Jim Fanning, Walker toiled for parts of\nfour seasons in the minors, before making his big league debut on August 16,\n1989. A five-tool threat, Walker blossomed into an all-star outfielder in his\nsix seasons with the Expos. After the strike-shortened, 1994 campaign, Walker\ninked a multi-year deal with Colorado, where he would enjoy his greatest big\nleague success. His MVP award-winning 1997 campaign was one of the best single\nseasons in history. In that storied year, Walker belted 49 homers, drove in 130\nruns and hit .366, to earn his first of three batting titles. He would hit .379\nwith 37 home runs and 115 RBIs for an encore in 1999. After more than nine\nseasons with the Rockies, the five-time all-star was dealt to St. Louis in\nAugust 2004. He would play his final season with the Cardinals the following\nyear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In all, Walker suited up for 17 big league seasons and leads Canadians in virtually every career offensive category, amassing 2,160 hits, 383 home runs, 471 doubles and 230 stolen bases. The seven-time Gold Glove winner also compiled a .313 career batting average, .565 slugging percentage and won the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame\u2019s Tip O\u2019Neill Award an unprecedented  nine times. For his efforts, Walker was inducted into Canada\u2019s Sports Hall of Fame in 2007, the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Biographie de Larry Walker :<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lorsque Larry Walker a sign\u00e9 son premier\ncontrat professionnel en 1984, Larry Walker pr\u00e9f\u00e9rait le Canadien de Montr\u00e9al\naux Expos de Montr\u00e9al.
