Ferguson Jenkins a grandi \u00e0 Chatham en Ontario o\u00f9 il a d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 ses talents au baseball, au basketball et au hockey. Apr\u00e8s l\u2019\u00e9cole secondaire au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 1960, il a sign\u00e9 un contrat avec les Phillies de Philadelphie mais ce n\u2019est qu\u2019avec les Cubs de Chicago, en 1966, qu\u2019il a \u00e9t\u00e9 converti en lanceur partant.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c0 sa premi\u00e8re campagne en tant que lanceur partant, en 1967, Jenkins a enregistr\u00e9 20 victoires et a \u00e9t\u00e9 invit\u00e9 au match des \u00e9toiles pour la premi\u00e8re fois. Le jeune lanceur a obtenu le plus de d\u00e9part de toute la Ligue nationale (40) en 1968, compilant une fiche de 20-15. La vedette canadienne a connu six saisons cons\u00e9cutives d\u2019au moins 20 victoires (de 1967 \u00e0 1972). C\u2019est en 1971 qu\u2019il a obtenu ses meilleurs r\u00e9sultats : 24 victoires (meneur dans la Nationale), 30 matchs complet et 325 manches lanc\u00e9es. Il est devenu le premier Cub \u00e0 gagner le troph\u00e9e Cy Young.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c9chang\u00e9 aux Rangers du Texas apr\u00e8s la saison 1973, il a r\u00e9colt\u00e9 25 victoires, a compl\u00e9t\u00e9 29 matchs, a retir\u00e9 245 frappeurs sur des prises et a maintenu une MPM de 2,82 \u00e0 sa premi\u00e8re saison avec l\u2019\u00e9quipe. Le l\u00e9gendaire lanceur canadien a pris sa retraite apr\u00e8s avoir gagn\u00e9 284 matchs et \u00eatre devenu le seul lanceur \u00e0 faire plus de 3000 victimes au b\u00e2ton (3192 au total) tout en donnant moins de 1000 buts sur balles (997). Greg Maddux et Curt Schilling l\u2019ont rejoint depuis. Jenkins a \u00e9t\u00e9 intronis\u00e9 au Temple de la renomm\u00e9e du baseball \u00e0 Cooperstown le 21 juillet 1991, devenant le premier canadien \u00e0 recevoir cet honneur.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
