MILWAUKEE — Tigers president and general manager Dave Dombrowski and Brewers vice president and general manager Doug Melvin have been named co-recipients of the Sporting News Executive of the Year in Major League Baseball for the 2011 season.<\/p>\n

The award has been handed out since 1936, but it’s the first time in history that it is being shared for a single season. It’s also the first time both longtime baseball executives have received the award, which was presented here on Tuesday evening during a dinner among the GMs gathered for this week’s annual meetings.<\/p>\n
