Bangor resident and Bangor High School assistant hockey coach Matt Stairs, who retired after a 19-year Major League Baseball career last year, will be a studio analyst for Boston Red Sox games on the New England Sports Network this season.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m excited,\u201d said the 43-year-old Stairs. \u201cIt\u2019s a new chapter for me. I\u2019m looking forward to it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stairs will join Dennis Eckersley, Jim Rice and Peter Gammons as a studio analyst and he said he will be scheduled for \u201c20-30 games\u201d this season.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter that, we\u2019ll see what happens. We\u2019ll see how the ratings go,\u201d said Stairs, who will be paid by the game.<\/p>\n
He noted that he may do up to 50-60 games if the other analysts aren\u2019t available or if there are rain-outs and cancellations.<\/p>\n
Lewiston\u2019s Tom Caron is the studio host.<\/p>\n
As an analyst, Stairs will be involved in the pre-game and post-game shows.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019ll be nice to be on this end of it,\u201d said Stairs, who is looking forward to working with Caron and the other analysts. \u201cAs a player, you always had to watch what you said. You couldn\u2019t always tell the truth. You had to sugarcoat things and be nice.<\/p>\n
