Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame to unveil award winners this week
The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame will issue press releases (via email) this week to announce the winners of the 2016 Jack Graney Award and the 2016 James “Tip” O’Neill Award.
The winner of the Prix Jack Graney will be announced on Tuesday, November 29. This award is presented to a member of the media who has made significant contributions to baseball in Canada through their life’s work.
The Jack Graney Award has been handed out 17 times since 1987. Legendary Montreal baseball writer Serge Touchette was the most recent winner in 2015. You can view the complete list of previous winners cliquez ici.
The winner of the James “Tip” O’Neill Award will be announced on Friday, December 2. This award is presented annually to the Canadian player judged to have excelled in individual achievement and team contribution while adhering to baseball’s highest ideals.
The Tip O’Neill Award has been handed out every year since 1984. Larry Walker (Maple Ridge, B.C.) won the award a record nine times during his career. Other players have also won the award three of more times: Etobicoke, Ont., native Joey Votto is a five-time winner, while Justin Morneau (New Westminster, B.C.) and Jason Bay (Trail, B.C) have been honoured three times each.
