VANCOUVER — Who was that wildly enthusiastic fan sitting in the second row behind the San Francisco Giants’ on-deck circle on Wednesday in the first game of the World Series? If he was wearing sneakers, jeans, a black jacket and orange sweater, it was probably Jeff Mallett, the North Vancouver-born, Victoria-raised co-owner of the National League pennant winners.
“We have a fancy-schmancy owners box, but I almost never sit in there,” Mallett said just before the start of Game 1 against the Texas Rangers. “We like to sit right down by the field unless we’re hosting the commissioner or some really big sponsors and have to use the box.”
