CANADIAN RECORDS

Joey VottoJustin MorneauJustin Morneau or Joey Votto?

Each have an MVP (Morneau 2006 & Votto 2010). Each have been an All-Star (Morneau 2007,08,09,10 & Votto in 2010).

Morneau holds the Canadian Single Season record for 1st baseman in G (163), AB (623), H (190), D (47), RBI (130), TB (331), OBP (.437), SLG (.618), AVG (.345)

Votto holds the Canadian Single Season record for 1st baseman in R (106), HR (37), BB (91), SB (16)

By the way the only record one of them don’t hold is the Triples record. That’s held by Bill Phillips with 15 in 1886!

Russell MartinWill Russell Martin break any of his Canadian catching records?

Russell holds 11 Single Season Canadian catching records. He leads in G (155), AB (553), R (87), H (158), D (32), HR (19), RBI (87), BB (90), SB (21), K (89), TB (253). George Gibson holds the Triples record with 9 in 1909 and Justin Clark holds the OBP (.400), SLG (.486) and AVG (.358) records.

Jason BayWill Jason Bay rebound and contend for any of Larry Walker’s or Tip O’Neill’s Single Season Canadian OF records?

Currently, Jason ranks first in G with 162 played in 2005. Walker leads in HR (49), RBI (130), SLG (.720) and TB (409) and O’Neill leads in R (167), H (225), D (52), OBP (.485) and AVG (.435). Goody Rosen is 1st in AB with 606 and Jeff Heath is 1st in T with 20.

Ryan DempsterIs Ryan Dempster the 2nd greatest Canadian starter ever?

Currently Ryan ranks 2nd in GS (260), IP (1840.1) and SO (1574) and before the All-Star break should pass Kirk McCaskill’s 106 wins to move into 2nd place for career W’s.

Will Matt Stairs stick around long enough to break Larry Walker’s Canadian Games played record?

Matt StairsMatt Stairs has played 1839 games during his 18 seasons (102 g/yr) in MLB. Larry Walker played 1988 games in 17 seasons (116 g/yr). Being only 150 games from breaking the record it should only take 2 more seasons. Plus if Matt plays a game with the Washington Nationals in 2011 he will set an MLB record for most teams played for with 13 (Montreal, Boston, Oakland, Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Texas, Detroit, Toronto, Philadelphia and San Diego). He also holds the MLB record for most career pinch hit HR’s with 23.
