This photograph from the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum collection shows Pete Rose at bat during the 1984 Pearson Cup game. Howie Birnie (CBHFM Class of 2024), to whom Rose addressed the autograph, is the umpire behind the plate. The Jays’ catcher is Dave Stenhouse, who was called up specifically for the game from AAA Syracuse. Stenhouse’s brother Mike was an outfielder and first baseman for the Expos, and Dave was called up so the brothers could play against each other. Dave battled injuries throughout his minor league career, and never cracked the big leagues in a non-exhibition game. The photograph was donated by Howie Birnie at the time of his induction in 2024.
