NEW YORK — Jason Bay became the third Canadian-born player to reach 200 career home runs, achieving the feat with a solo shot Monday evening against the Padres.
Facing starting pitcher Tim Stauffer in the second inning, Bay launched his ninth home run of the season over Citi Field’s left-field wall. He now has seven home runs in his last 39 games, after hitting just eight over his first 142 games as a Met.
Bay joins Larry Walker (383) and Matt Stairs (265), both retired, as the only other Canadian big leaguers with 200 home runs.
