The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) was founded in 1943 by chewing gum manufacturer and baseball executive Philip K. Wrigley to maintain the image of baseball as the ‘American Pastime’ in the public eye while the majority of able-bodied young men were away serving in World War II.
