CLAPP WILL TAKE OLYMPIC TORCH DURING LASALLE LEG OF RELAY

Canadian baseball national team alumni Stubby Clapp of Windsor and Jimmy Van Ostrand of Richmond, B.C., will serve as torch bearers for the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games torch relay.Clapp is a two-time Olympian, having participated in the 2004 Summer Games in Athens and in 2008 in Beijing.

Clapp played 11 seasons of professional baseball, including 23 games with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2001.

He has also represented Canada in numerous international events including the 1999 Pan-Am Games and the World Baseball Classic in 2006 and again in 2009.

Now a coach in the Houston Astros system, Clapp will run in LaSalle Dec. 23.

Van Ostrand was a member of Team Canada for the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing and recently won a bronze medal with Team Canada at the 2009 Baseball World Cup in Italy, the first time Canada has won a medal at that event.

The first baseman/outfielder in the Houston Astros organization will carry the torch Feb. 9 in Richmond.
