John Hiller is a Canadian former professional baseball relief pitcher from Toronto, Ontario. Hiller played 15 seasons in Major League Baseball for the Detroit Tigers between 1965 and 1980, missing the 1971 season due to a heart attack, illness, and major surgery. Following his recovery, Hiller went on to be the MLB saves leader in 1973 and an All-Star in 1974. Hiller is a World Series Champion, winning the 1986 title with the Detroit Tigers, appearing twice in relief. Hiller set a major league record that same year by starting a game with six consecutive strikeouts. Hiller was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985, and is also a member of the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame and Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.
