The Montreal Expos selected Boccabella from the Chicago Cubs in the 1968 Expansion Draft and Boccabella played for the Expos from 1969-1973. He served as a utility player until his final year with the Expos, when he became the primary catcher and had the best year of his career. On July 6, 1973, Boccabella hit two home runs in the same inning against the Astros, including one grand slam.
