Brighter Days

Brighter Days

As the cold weather of winter sets in and we face the impending February blues, we take solace that the days are already getting longer and there are brighter days ahead for all of us.

On Wednesday, February 2nd we will be announcing our class of 2022 to be honoured on June 18th along with our 2020 class Justin Morneau, John Olerud, Duane Ward and Jacques Doucet. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the 2020 class has been delayed until this coming June. Stay tuned for this exciting news early next month.

Marty Healy Jersey Donation and Virtual Jersey Collection

Back in November the family of Marty Healy donated his collection of 93 game used Canadian baseball jerseys to our Hall of Fame. This is the single largest one-time baseball jersey donation in our history.  We are incredibly grateful for this donation.

Now, for the first time ever, you can see a portion of these jerseys online through our virtual collection. Marty, who co-authored a book about George Gibson and had an encyclopedic knowledge of Canadian big leaguers, passed away on September 11, 2020 after a long battle with congestive heart failure. A strong supporter of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, Marty was also an enthusiastic participant at the annual Canadian Baseball History Conference and a diehard Toronto Blue Jays fan whose passion for Canadian major leaguers inspired him to assemble a collection of 93 game-worn jerseys that date back to 1964.

Marty’s collection includes:
Claude Raymond (St. Jean, Que.), 1969 Atlanta Braves
Pete Ward (Montreal, Que.), 1970 New York Yankees
Reggie Cleveland (Swift Current, Sask.), 1977 Boston Red Sox
Terry Puhl (Melville, Sask.), 1986 Houston Astros
Russell Martin (East York, Ont.), 2011 New York Yankees (ALDS)
Mike Soroka (Calgary, Alta.), 2018 Atlanta Braves (from his home debut)
Cal Quantrill (Port Hope, Ont.), 2019 San Diego Padres
Jordan Romano (Markham, Ont.), 2019 Toronto Blue Jays

Marty’s collection also includes PSA-graded rookie cards of Canadian big leaguers dating back to the early 1900s, vintage George Gibson (London, Ont.) and George Selkirk (Huntsville, Ont.) model gloves and a rare Triple-A Winnipeg Whips hat worn by pitcher Bob Reynolds in the early 1970s. Visit the museum this summer to view some of Marty’s amazing collection on display.
