Introduction

Baseball cards have always been about more than just the game that we know and love. These iconic pieces of history, which originally began as promotional tools tucked into cigarette or candy packages, have ended up becoming some of the most valuable pieces of sports memorabilia in existence. They reflect not only moments of athletic greatness, but also milestones in representation and the overall growth of the game. In Canada, baseball cards have become incredibly unique, whether it be a card that came from a tobacco box in the early 1900s or a limited edition Vladimir Guerrero Jr. card, each one has come from a combination of home-grown innovation and cross-border partnerships which have shaped the art of baseball card collecting in today’s game.
