This base is from the Montreal Expos’ Opening Day in 2004. This was their last home opener and last season in Montreal. The Expos finished in last place in the National League East, with a 67-95 record. For several seasons, the Expos’ future was in question, and each season was played thinking it might be the last in Montreal. On September 29, 2004, it was announced that the team would be moving to Washington for the following season, becoming the Washington Nationals. This same day, Major League Baseball officially recognized the 1994 Montreal Expos as “The Best Team in Baseball” – the season where a strike cancelled the World Series
