Qui sommes-nous? The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum serves as the home of Canada’s rich baseball history. Established in 1982, our museum, located in St. Marys, Ontario, is a registered charity with a vast collection of artifacts that date back to the 1860s. The Hall of Fame and Museum is situated on our 32-acre site, which also houses the Harry Simmons Memorial Library, four baseball fields, and walking trails. We strive not only to educate our visitors and supporters, but also to champion a culture which prioritizes diversity, respect, and a healthy lifestyle.

L'emploi : The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is adding to their team a Curatorial Assistant position through the Young Canada Works – Building Careers in Heritage grant. This position is responsible for assisting the museum team in the collection to catalogue artifacts, perform research on objects and archives, rehouse artifacts within the collection, and research and write exhibition text for online exhibits. They will also assist with updating existing museum records by adding images and reviewing accuracy, and digitizing archival materials. The right candidate will have relevant museum experience, computer proficiency, exceptional organizational and communication skills, and a passion for museum work.

Sous la responsabilité du : Care of Collections and Visitor Engagement Supervisor

Responsabilités : The Curatorial Assistant will work on specified projects under supervision, such as care of collections, historic research, and digitization. This will include:

– Assist in digitization of archival records and photographs
– Assist with request from external researchers
– Catalogue and process artifacts using spreadsheets and the museum database, PastPerfect
– Assist with photography of museum artifacts and editing images
- Reloger les artefacts dans les réserves
– Perform research and update relevant information to the database entries
- Surveiller les conditions environnementales du musée
- Créer des expositions virtuelles sur les artefacts de la collection
- Fournir un soutien aux visites et aux visiteurs
- Toutes autres tâches connexes!

 Qualifications requises :

– Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and organizational skills
– Computer proficiency including use of spreadsheets, databases, and word processing systems
– Knowledge of PastPerfect, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Photoshop or other image editing software, and digital cameras and scanners
- La connaissance des principes, des pratiques et des règles d'archivage (RAD) est un atout
- Expérience préalable dans un musée ou un milieu d'archives appréciée
– Familiarity with social media such as Instagram or Facebook
- Expérience avec la manipulation d'argent
– Comfortable interacting with the public and public speaking
- La maîtrise du français est un atout

Études : Post-secondary education in a discipline pertinent to the job function (eg. Museum Management, Museum Studies, Public History, Archival Studies, etc.)

Conditions : The selected applicant must be able to meet the specific YCW grant requirements.

-Are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible);

-Are legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number)

-Are between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment; and

-Are a college or university graduate (certificate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate).

 

Taux horaire : $18.05/hour

End Date: March 28, 2025

Contract Hours: 35
